Humanities DC Capacity Building Grant

The Capacity Building Grants fund capacity building projects that help humanities-focused nonprofit organizations advance their mission and serve DC’s communities.

Applicants will propose distinct capacity building projects, such as identifying a communications strategy, improving volunteer recruitment, ensuring thoughtful leadership succession, updating a nonprofit’s technology, or improving how it measures its outcomes, that will build the capacity of their organization to effectively deliver its mission.

Eligibility: non-profit organizations with a humanities-focused mission and annual budgets of less than $2 million

Award Amount: Up to $25,000

Application Deadline: May 1, 2024

Grant Period Begins: July 1, 2024

Grant Period Ends: April 30, 2025

DC Oral History Collaborative Grants support oral history projects that explore Washington, DC’s life, history, and culture through interviews with the people who have lived it. There will be an opportunity to request additional funds for translation of interview transcripts, as well as extensions of successfully completed oral history projects previously funded by HumanitiesDC.

National Endowment for the Humanities

The Dialogues on the Experience of War program supports the study and discussion of humanities sources that address the experiences of military service and war from a wide variety of perspectives. Dialogue projects encourage veterans and nonveterans to reflect collectively on such topics as civic engagement, veteran identity, and the legacies of war, service, and homecoming. Project teams should include humanities scholars, military veterans, and individuals with relevant experience.

Apply for a grant from Georgia Humanities! We offer Georgia-based organizations grants of up to $2,500 to support humanities programs. Programs must involve at least one humanities scholar, bring the public together for discussion and exchange, and be designed for and open to public audiences.

Public Humanities Projects

National Endowment for the Humanities

The Public Humanities Projects program supports initiatives that bring the ideas of the humanities to life for general audiences through public programming. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. The focus is on projects that are intended to reach broad and diverse public audiences in non-classroom settings in the United States. Project categories include exhibitions, historic places, and humanities discussions. Grants are available for planning and implementation. Optional drafts are due December 7, 2022. The application deadline is January 11, 2023.

Save America's Treasures

Save America's Treasures grants from the Historic Preservation Fund provide preservation or conservation assistance to nationally significant historic properties and collections. Properties can include historic districts, buildings, sites, structures, and objects, while collections can include artifacts, museum collections, documents, sculptures, and other works of art.
