Organizations best suited to this initiative will enable individuals and families to achieve substantive improvement in their well-being through foundational resources. This includes, for instance, organizations providing access to health care, stable and affordable housing, education and job training, support for sustained employment, asset ownership, civic engagement, and other pathways. They may also be engaged in data collection and communication to amplify the voices of people and communities struggling against inequities.

Interested organizations must register to apply before 4 p.m. U.S. Central Time on Friday, May 5, 2023. Complete applications are due before 4 p.m. U.S. Central Time on Monday, June 12, 2023. The AARP Community Challenge provides small grants to fund quick-action projects that can help communities throughout the U.S. become more livable for people of all ages—especially those age 50 and older. In 2023, the AARP Community Challenge is accepting applications across three different grant opportunities: Flagship Grants focus on improving public places, transportation, housing, diversity/equity and inclusion, digital connections, community resilience, civic engagement, and community health and economic empowerment. Capacity-Building Microgrants, new in 2023, fund projects that improve walkability and community gardens. Demonstration Grants, also new in 2023, fund projects that build capacity towards transportation systems change and build awareness of new housing options through accessory dwelling unit design competitions. Created as a way to reduce vehicle miles traveled and improve air quality, the ARC's Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a grant program that incentivizes local jurisdictions to re-envision their communities as vibrant, walkable places that offer increased mobility options, encourage healthy lifestyles and provide improved access to jobs and services.

Program Goals

• Encourage a diversity of housing, employment, commercial, shopping and recreation land uses at the transit station, local and regional center level accessible by people of all ages, abilities, and income levels,

• Provide access to a range of travel modes including transit, roadways, walking and biking and increase roadway connectivity to provide optimal access to all uses within the study area,

• Foster public-private partnerships and sustained community support through an outreach process that promotes the involvement of all stakeholders, including those historically underserved or underrepresented,

• Encourage mixed-income residential neighborhoods, employment, shopping, and recreation options.

The National Fund for Sacred Places, a program of Partners for Sacred Places in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, provides support to community-serving congregations in the United States and its territories that are undertaking significant capital projects at their historic houses of worship. Matching grants of $50,000 to $250,000 support the planning and execution of urgent capital projects at historic sacred places that are valued for their cultural importance as well as their role in providing human services, strengthening communities, and revitalizing neighborhoods. Wraparound services including training, technical assistance, and planning support are also provided. Grants of $50,000 to $100,000 require a 1:1 match, while grants over $100,000 require a 2:1 match.

The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation provides support in the communities served by Dominion Energy, including areas within Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Grant funding is provided to nonprofit organizations with proposals in the following four focus areas: 1) human needs, including food security, housing and shelter, and access to healthcare; 2) environmental stewardship, with a focus on protecting natural resources and making efficient use of energy; 3) education, with a focus on future workforce, especially in STEM and energy fields; and 4) community vitality grants to foster an appreciation of diversity, revitalize neighborhoods, and ensure a vibrant community and cultural life.
